%X Models that use cellular automata as a conceptual basis may assist in the generation of future scenarios, which in turn provide inputs for decision making involving the use of natural resources. The aim of this study is to evaluate and apply the land use and cover change (LUCC) model contained in Dinamica-EGO platform to generate scenarios of agricultural expansion in the municipality of Campos Novos-SC, for the 2003 to 2012 period. The maps were obtained for the years 2002 and 2008, generated from Landsat TM-5 and classified from multiresolution segmentation and object-based. Using the land cover maps, a cross-tabulation map was generated for change, to assist in the preliminary analysis of changes between the years 2002 and 2008. For analysis of the transitions were defined the following processes: degradation, regeneration, concentration, distribution, horizontalization and urbanization. It´s possible to see the prevalence of processes related to degradation of native environments. Processes related to the concentration of land occurred at rates slightly higher than processes related to land redistribution. Processes related to urbanization occurring in low rates. The cross-tabulation and the transition matrices were extremely useful for the diagnosis and analysis of the problem addressed. The method of weight of evidence enabled analyzing which variables are most important in each transition. This fact is fundamental in understanding of the LUCC process. The simulation was generated with good similarity with the reference map, showing the potential application to the study of LUCC.
